BARE Shares – 6 Reasons Why You Need To Get Your Side Hustle On

BARE International shares an article by Tom Ward for Forbes – 6 Reasons Why You Need To Get Your Side Hustle On.

At BARE we understand how a little extra cash goes a long way in life, a little added work here, a little there and all of a sudden you’re a LOT more financially comfortable! Which is why, as a BARE Evaluator you get paid a wide range of fees for projects performed, the more you take on, the more you earn. Here’s an interesting article which gives you extra knowledge on how and why to get your side hustle on this holiday season!

So why would I waste my weekend working when I could be out having fun? Because it’s important. While my peers are golfing, hanging out with friends, and watching TV: I’m writing, having coffee with thought leaders and interviewing interesting people.

Unless you are one of the lucky ones who figured out how to make a career out of your passion, you should be working on your side hustle too.

1. It Opens You Up To New Experiences: In the last couple of months: I attended a Fabletics launch party and interviewed Kate Hudson, had lunch with Ashton Kutcher’s investment guy, and was a guest on an influencer podcast. Taking on a side hustle is like taking on a new extracurricular activity in high school; It exposes you to a new group of people you, otherwise, wouldn’t have met.

2. You Can Figure Out What You Want To Be When You Grow Up: I’m 39 and still don’t know what I want to do. I’ve got a great job that pays the bills, but doesn’t satisfy me creatively. So how can you find a career that satisfies you both intellectually and financially? By trying new things on the side. I read a book, Reinventing You by Dorie Clark, and it inspired me to start writing; something I never did in my life. I started a blog, which started to get a lot of traffic, which landed me at Forbes. I’m not sure if being a journalist is what I want to do as a career, but I’m having fun and it’s satisfying my creative itch.

3. It Teaches You Time Management: I know what you’re saying, “I have kids, a job that’s working me to death and I don’t have a free minute.” Nonsense. Do you watch TV at night? Do you zonk out on the couch and play Candy Crush for hours? That’s all time you could be spending on your side gig. Sure it’s tough but once you start putting those extra hours to good use, you won’t want to stop.

4. It Develops New Skills That Can Help You At Your Job: Dorie Clark, author of the forthcoming Entrepreneurial You, tell us that, “A side gig helps you develop new skills on your own time — which can pay major dividends for your day job. I interviewed Lenny Achan, a nurse who developed several apps and, as a consequence, was offered a job running social media at the hospital where he worked. He eventually became its head of communications.” So once you develop new skills, you don’t need to leave your day job: You can actually use your skills to add more value and take a new position within your company.

5. You Make Extra Money: Opinions vary on this but I believe that your side hustle needs to make money. When you’re starting out on a new business venture or a mid-career change, it’s probably going to take a while to find customers, so you may be working for free for a while. But one of your goals should be to make money. Otherwise, you’ve just got a hobby.

6. Career Insurance: “When you have multiple income streams, you protect yourself against professional disruption. Even if you lose your day job — and at the start of my career, I was laid off multiple times — you have other resources to fall back on. A side hustle is an insurance policy for your career,” said Dorie Clark.

Still not convinced? I was a car salesman for years, with no direction or idea of anything better to do, but in the last couple years: I was a part owner of an app that we sold to Classpass, I created a blog that reaches over 100,000 people a month, and I started writing at Forbes. I’m nothing special; I’m just willing to work when other people aren’t. You can do it too. Trust me.’
